Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve filled out the Contact Form, now what?

Great, I’m so glad you’re interested in finding out whether Cypress Psychology is the right fit for your treatment needs! Next, I will respond to your message or phone call to set up a free 20-minute consultation. During this consultation, I’ll ask you a few questions to get an idea of what is bringing you into therapy and whether we might be a good fit based on what you are looking for. I’ll also answer any questions you have about the process.

If you decide that we’re the right fit based on what you’re looking for, you can reach out to schedule a 60-minute initial intake appointment. During the intake, we will focus on laying the groundwork for future work together by discussing what is bringing you into therapy, general background information, what you are hoping to get out of therapy, as well as reviewing practice policies and paperwork.

After that, we’ll start working toward helping you meet your goals and experience the growth and emotional well-being you’ve been hoping for.

Do you offer in-person appointments?

At this time, appointments are only being offered via telehealth. All individual therapy appointments will be conducted virtually through a secure and HIPAA-compliant video platform.

How long are appointments?

The initial intake appointment is 60 minutes. Therapy appointments vary in duration from a traditional 45-50 minute appointment to 90 minutes for EMDR.

How often will we meet?

Typically it is most helpful to meet on a weekly basis, but we will work together to find a frequency that meets your needs.

What’s the difference between an initial intake appointment and an individual therapy appointment?

Intakes are a “getting to know you” appointment. During an intake, we will focus on laying the groundwork for future work together by discussing what is bringing you into therapy, general background information, what you are hoping to get out of therapy, as well as reviewing practice policies and paperwork.

Individual therapy appointments are any appointment after the intake. These appointments are when we start actively working toward your goals for therapy.

What if I don’t know what my goals are?

Don’t worry, that’s something we can figure out together! If you know you want to make a change, we can work together to figure out what that might look like for you and the life you want to live.

Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network mental health care provider and do not participate in any private health insurance plans. Many insurance companies provide “out-of-network” insurance benefits that cover mental health services either in full or in part. As such, payments are collected each session and I am happy to provide a statement of services, or “superbill,” at the end of the month that can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement. If you are interested in receiving reimbursement from your insurance company, please contact your insurance provider to learn more about your benefits for mental health treatment.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

I sure do! I reserve a limited number of spots for reduced fee sessions. Should you need a reduced fee, please feel free to inquire about availability.
